Greetings all!

Even with only 4 members confirmed, Broadstairs Bacchanalia is forging ahead (like a sparkly steam engine), with plenty of room for more participants should you find yourself available 11-13 of September to come and join us.

However, progamme and activities must still be planned (structure is important if flexible).

Timings: Suggestion is that the 'official programme' runs from ~2pm on Fri 11th to 1pm on Sun 13th, with joint meals/hangouts/etc before and after as well if people are around and feeling up to it

Food: As last year, the plan is to have picnic type ‘everyone contributes something’ type of lunches on most days. Friday’s dinner would be provided by yours truly and pushkin666. Saturday’s official con dinner would take place in a local restaurant. With the above in mind, please let us know if this broadly speaking sounds like a good plan, and if you have any specific dietary restrictions/allergies we should take into consideration.

Talks/Activities: Considering the potentially small attendance we're planning to keep this relatively informal and relaxed, but it would still be good to have some clearly defined activities and items for discussion. We have some ideas but we also need your input. Please comment with your ideas. Would you be willing to give a short talk (prompt discussion about) a fannish topic? Do you want to pimp a small fandom? Run a writing workshop?

Some suggestions:

  • Vid show

  • Fandom Scrabble (extra points for fandom related words!)

  • Writing exercises, a few different ones, e.g. fandom/trope bingo

  • New fandom pimp - Person of Interest and Community by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair

  • Returns and reboots: the good, the bad, and the ugly by [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • Switching with dark fic, do unto others as you would not have done unto you by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair

Dearest all,

Below is the first go at timey-wimey-tabling the Broadstairs Bacchanalia Programme. I say timey-wimey because all times are approximate. Rest assured that despite my love for lists and order I shall refrain from cracking the whip re timings too much! Flexibility and fun! I wanted to try and fit all the 'formal' activities into the time everyone is here, hope it isn't too crammed.

Please let me know your thoughts on this and any changes you think would make the whole thing even better. I want to ensure that this is something everyone can enjoy.

Dear All,

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I’m currently trying to organise all the talks and activities into a timey-wimey-table so with this in mind I wanted to gauge people’s thoughts various things.

Here are the talks and activities that we have so far listed, including the person more or less in charge. Please do not stress or hyperventilate. All we ask of the ‘presenters’ is that they come with something to start us off! This could be some key points or observations, examples, pictures, video clips, questions, topics to debate/hear people’s thoughts on or any other prompts. Nobody is required to put together any kind of detailed lecture so please do not worry! Anyway, with that calming message and in no particular order…

  • Behind the Scenes of AO3 and Organisation of Transformative Works by [livejournal.com profile] moth2fic

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Fans, Creators and Mainstream Media by [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • So Bad It’s Funny: Bad Fic, Bad Writing, Good Laughs by [livejournal.com profile] zellieh

  • Finding Inspiration by [livejournal.com profile] thesmallhobbit

  • There Are Voices In My Head – Getting into Character by [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • How to Survive Co-Authoring by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair and [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • Writing Exercises, including a drabble/limerick challenge – PLEASE PROVIDE SOME SUGGESTIONS!

  • Zombie Apocalypse Now by [livejournal.com profile] dreamersdare

  • Writing BDSM & Kink by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair & [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • Partners for Life! Appeal of the Buddy Cop Genre by [livejournal.com profile] margaret_r

  • Super! Heroism and Humanity Beyond the Norm by [livejournal.com profile] dreamersdare

  • Vid Show – PLEASE PROVIDE SOME SUGGESTIONS!

And the New/Small Fandom Pimps:

  • Fully Into Almost Human by [livejournal.com profile] thesmallhobbit

  • Dance, Food and Comedy: The Inexplicable Lure of British TV RPS by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair and [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • Feeling Grimm Yet? by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair

  • DO YOU HAVE A NEW/SMALL FANDOM YOU WOULD LIKE TO PIMP?

Wowza, that’s quite a bit of stuff! So that everything goes smoothly I have 6 questions for you all, answers in comments please (too lazy to make a poll).

  1. Happy with the talks and activities?

  2. Currently I have estimated ~1h per talk/activity with the inbuilt flexibility and expectation that some stuff will take less, some maybe longer, people will wonder to the kitchen for food, we will all get distracted by talking about/doing something completely different… Does this seem about right?

  3. Would you prefer the talks/activities to be organised a) thematically (e.g. all the writing related things together) OR b) mixed-up merrily for variation

  4. Do you have any specific writing exercises that you think might work well? Please provide details!

  5. Do you have any favourite vids you would like included in the vid show? Please provide links!

  6. Do you have a fandom you would like to pimp to the others to recruit new fans? Please provide details!

Dearest Fellow Fen

Broadstairs Bacchanalia planning is heating up! I have been drafting a programme and a timey-wimey-table of activities. However, currently there are still many gaps! This is where you come in! We will need your ideas and initiative for activities/talks to make our weekend extra special and full of stuff that YOU want to do and talk about!

Here we have some general points that we very much welcome your comments and contributions on.

Timing: When are you arriving and when are you leaving? Far as I can tell at least some people will be here from Thu onwards so a pre-con dinner for the early birds is planned. It would be helpful to know what time people have to leave also so that we don’t include anything too special on Sunday afternoon.

Food: At the moment, the rough plan is to have picnic type ‘everyone contributes something’ type of lunches on most days, perhaps with the exception of Sunday when we were hoping to tempt people to sample Broadstair’s lovely fish and chips, and Morelli’s ice-cream. Friday’s dinner would be provided by yours truly and [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666. Saturday’s official con dinner would take place in a local restaurant. With the above in mind, please let us know if this broadly speaking sounds like a good plan, and if you have any specific dietary restrictions/allergies we should take into consideration.

Talks/Activities: This is the big one! We have some ideas but they certainly aren’t enough to fill an entire weekend so we very much need your help. Please comment with your ideas. Would you be willing to give a short talk (prompt discussion about) a fannish topic? Do you want to pimp a small fandom? Run a writing workshop? Let us know! To give you a flavour of what we have planned so far (in no particular order)…

  • Behind the Scenes of AO3 and Organisation of Transformative Works by [livejournal.com profile] moth2fic

  • Zombie Apocalypse Now by [livejournal.com profile] dreamersdare

  • Writing BDSM & Kink by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair & [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • Small Fandom Pimp: Dance, Food and Comedy - The Inexplicable Lure of British TV RPS by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair and [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • Small Fandom Pimp: Feeling Grimm Yet? by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair

  • Writing workshop – short writing exercises to get the creative juices flowing

  • Vid Show - Please recommend your favourite fanvids to include!

  • YOUR TALK/ACTIVITY HERE!!
