Greetings all!

Even with only 4 members confirmed, Broadstairs Bacchanalia is forging ahead (like a sparkly steam engine), with plenty of room for more participants should you find yourself available 11-13 of September to come and join us.

However, progamme and activities must still be planned (structure is important if flexible).

Timings: Suggestion is that the 'official programme' runs from ~2pm on Fri 11th to 1pm on Sun 13th, with joint meals/hangouts/etc before and after as well if people are around and feeling up to it

Food: As last year, the plan is to have picnic type ‘everyone contributes something’ type of lunches on most days. Friday’s dinner would be provided by yours truly and pushkin666. Saturday’s official con dinner would take place in a local restaurant. With the above in mind, please let us know if this broadly speaking sounds like a good plan, and if you have any specific dietary restrictions/allergies we should take into consideration.

Talks/Activities: Considering the potentially small attendance we're planning to keep this relatively informal and relaxed, but it would still be good to have some clearly defined activities and items for discussion. We have some ideas but we also need your input. Please comment with your ideas. Would you be willing to give a short talk (prompt discussion about) a fannish topic? Do you want to pimp a small fandom? Run a writing workshop?

Some suggestions:

  • Vid show

  • Fandom Scrabble (extra points for fandom related words!)

  • Writing exercises, a few different ones, e.g. fandom/trope bingo

  • New fandom pimp - Person of Interest and Community by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair

  • Returns and reboots: the good, the bad, and the ugly by [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666

  • Switching with dark fic, do unto others as you would not have done unto you by [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair

Already excited and have booked train ticket. Zellieh has booked B&B. Willing to run writing workshop - something along the lines of fanfic v original fic and the pros and cons of posting/publishing etc. Everything sounds great. Hope some more people turn up, even if only for the day. But if they don't we can all take meticulous notes and then post about it and make them jealous. Please can we play Slash again? If nobody else has the game I'm willing to buy it.

The ideas for talks/workshops sound awesome so yes please. Slash was fun wasn't it but it's ridiculously expensive to buy - 25 dollars plus shipping from the states so unless Zellieh has a pack we may not be able to play :(

Free download - includes printable cards etc. - from the game makers at http://slashcg.com/shop/ I downloaded it to check you got everything you need but I don't currently have a printer in UK. Would be happy to fund purchase of card for printing... And will then feel guilty unless I donate to the makers!! The game - with a suitable box - could then be the first piece of communal property for Broadstairs Bacchanalia.

Oh that's cool that you can download it. Well Kat has a printer so if we get some card we can probably use her printer :) I'll just offer it up there.

Someone at Nineworlds had printed out their copy of the game onto a sheet of stickers and then stuck them on a couple of decks of old playing cards. It seemed like a very sensible idea: cheap, simple, and more durable than ordinary printer card.

I would happily give a short talk but that weekend is no good, sorry. :( We had to organise a meeting with the vicar.

Next year! Just give me more notice. :D Preferably a whole year's worth!

Miss you guys though. You in London at all in August/September?

I get that, if you guys can't commit to a weekend earlier it's the way of things. I just book up super early. If I get more notice I will be there next year. :D

Anyway you may end up setting it to a single weekend every year? Like Connotations did?

I really should! :D

Thanks to Patrick Kane, and the effect it's had on Hockey RPF fandom, the 'coping with a problematic fave' stuff has been on my mind lately. (If the RL Patrick Kane stuff is too dark or triggery for people, I can leave that part out?)

Something about what to do when a fandom fave turns out to be seriously creepy; how to cope with mass fic deletions, loss of creators & their blogs; how to adapt your creative projects if you want to save them; something something grieving process?

I don't know if I even have a clear idea for this. It's more of a prompt for discussion/heartfelt cry for help at this point?
