Dearest Broadstairs Bacchi!

The mini-con is returning, as promised! But before we can start thinking about practical arrangements (moth2fic, I think you had the whole house in mind...?) we need to settle on a date. Currently, we are still thinking September though a bit earlier than last year. So, please tick which of the below weekends you could do, and tick both if you don't mind. You can suggest other dates but the September ones were chosen to accommodate our timetables and we suspect everyone has other plans for August (plus Broadstairs will be heaving so accommodation prices would likely be higher etc).

[Poll #2000656]

And remember, please pimp the comm and the poll to your flisters in case other people would be interested!

As usual, I have absolutely no idea what I am doing when. So I'm not voting. Once you've got an idea I will try to persuade the powers that be that I need to be in UK... And yes, I had the whole house in mind but there was talk at the weekend about Tria maybe coming and needing to find somewhere wheelchair friendly - which I think might be quite difficult in terms of access to get-togethers rather than just somewhere to stay.

Lol. We only know that the first and last weekends aren't good for us :) August would be hellish in Broadstairs which is why we've not gone with that. The whole house would be great and definitely would mean that we could keep everything in one place. Unfortunately yes on Broadstairs not being particularly wheelchair friendly, even getting into some restaurants would probably prove difficult :(

Well, I can dig out all the info on the house whether I can come or not. I tend to think the logistics are just too complex for people in wheelchairs, unless we were using a hotel like Tynemouth or Durham. Sad, but probably true. Zellieh seemed to think we would be able to find something really big with a ground-floor disabled-friendly room but I think she's optimistic - in my experience (and I had my mum in a wheelchair for years) that kind of accommodation is either bigger places or very expensive and therefore no good for the other attendees. But we can look or ask around.

I hope you don't mind me voting when I wasn't around before. Just thought the earlier weekend would be best because it's closer to my birthday and I usually take time off anyway.

What's the atmosphere like, anyway?

of course we don't mind you voting - the more the merrier :)

What can I say about the atmosphere of the Con - well it had moment of extreme silliness, it's relaxed, there's no fandom drama, no ship wars allowed. It's just a few days of fandom fun and extreme geekiness.

Oh, cool. I'm super wary about fandom right now, but I think I could use a bit of positive fan eexperience to balance that out. I'vennever been to an actual fan gathering - the London incident was a writer's group with fan overlap - so I'm not sure what to expect.

In some respects it's like a group of friends sitting around and discussing their favourite fandoms. Last year we had writing challenges, eg 5 minute challenge with a prompt from a hat, fanvids, fandom pimping, talks about things in fandom. Last year's programme will give you a bit of an idea of the sort of things we did. There's a nice con dinner where we go out and rabble rouse (just kidding *g*) in Broadstairs, a trip to Morelli's ice cream parlour which is just awesome.. Then last year we went down to the beach as well, we went to a really lovely local bar that does all local Kent ciders and wines and has live music and poetry readings and is hosted in a second hand book shop that used to be a methodist chapel. And there's no fandom bashing, no ship bashing, no fandom wank. We don't allow that.

This makes me super happy! But I hope you don't mind if I sit out on writing prompts? I don't write fic, sorry.

I sat out on the writing prompts last year and wrote mine about 3 weeks later! Seriously, nobody has to do anything they don't want to. The bacchanalia is all about having fun.

Hey! Sadly I was away for the last one but I would like to come to this one if possible.

I am actually getting married the first week of October, which means it will have to be round my working hours for me. That would make the first weekend but I can't commit until after I'm back from Sierra Leone and have a clearer idea of what's left to sort. :)

One day I will make this!!

Edit: Bizarrely, August would be better for me. But I am aware that would be very much the minority!

It's difficult getting any time right I think. August in Broadstairs though is pretty horrendous and more expensive.

Also busy busy year - Sierra Leone and getting married. You are crazy doing both at the same time you know that don't you :)

Okay, I've voted for the weekend I might be able to do as opposed to the one I definitely can't do but I will place the caveat that this will be dependent on work/university since I have no idea what's going to be happening on that front. I shall keep my fingers crossed though that it all works out okay!

If not, I may just carry out an early invasion and come down before university starts.

Nods on it being down to university/work etc.

You are of course always welcome to carry out an early invasion - we don't mind :)

Once I know where I'm at, we definitely need to look at the possibility :)

Have now actually clicked on both, just so that you have my vote - but still can't say for sure whether I'll be in UK in September at all. I really really want to be.

I haven't clicked on either (erm - have I? Maybe I have?) I know I can't do the first, but I am not even sure about the second! And travel and staying away from home may be complicated. So I am just going to watch for now, I'm afraid, and see how things go.
